I just want to be OPEC free. I have 5 acres of rural property and want to put up a turbine that will produce enough power for my entire house and 2 cars. I figure if Bergey is correct that would be a turbine rated at 125kw, but this Skystream 3.7 says it is rated at 1.8kw, why are these ratings so different?
Why do you support renewable energy?
$700 Billion a year going to the terrorists for no good reason, no thank-you. We don't need to be energy dependant on fossil fuels that destroy our environment.

great, looking forward to your thoughts on tower height after you get a chance to do some research.

based on the wind speeds you have given me, you will approximately produce the following with the skystream:

20m Tower Height - 200kWh
50m Tower Height - 400kWh
80m Tower Height - 450kWh

Obviously, the higher up you go the more wind power you will generate. Although how high will the city let you put up a wind turbine? Also the higher you go up, if something goes wrong, it's going to be difficult to fix and maintain. what do you think?

thanks for the introduction of what you are trying to do with wind power, lets see if it makes sense. the first step is to find out how much wind resources you have. we can start by checking first look wind speed database

At 20 meter tower height I am seeing 3.8 m/ (meters per second) for Kernville. Is that what you see?

Average wind speeds work better then wind gusts for a wind power system to pay off effectively, your thoughts?

hi robert, welcome to the community. have you looked into the wind speeds in your area? that would be good place to start to figure out your system setup.
